USP Structural Connectors is currently seeking a candidate for a position of Engineer In-Training. Must have a B.S. degree in Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited school.


Works with customer service in answering standard and custom connector related questions. Works with CAD Technicians to design and draw custom hangers, in addition to general drafting, according to company standards. Assists Engineering Manager with Product Development, Product Design, Quality Assurance and other engineering responsibilities.

  • Work with Customer Service department to respond to technical questions from customers, sales, building officials and outside engineers/architects regarding standard connectors and/or designs custom connectors to meet their requirements.
  • Perform product design calculations for custom wood-to-wood, wood-to-steel and wood-to-concrete connections following standard design procedures and applicable design and model codes.
  • Provide CAD operators with relevant product information for drawings including specifications, tolerances, dimensions and materials to be used to prepare detailed drawings and details for products.
  • Exercise good judgment in selection of designs to meet customer requirements within procedural limitations.
  • Conduct technical research, prepare technical bulletins and provide technical information as required.
  • Assist Manager of Engineering with development and testing of new products and product revisions.
  • Update design calculations and documents to comply with the latest building codes as required for national and local product approval.
  • Analyze test reports and data from in-house testing and independent labs.
  • Provide assistance to Quality Assurance as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited school.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCad, Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, etc.) Familiarity with MathCad and Solidworks software a plus.
  • Applicant shall hold an E.I.T. Certificate.
