The Code Advisory Committee is structured to work with Florida Building Code issues and activities, such as generating and responding to code changes, preparation and codification of resource documents, trial design studies when requested, and practical application guidelines.
When requested, this committee should act as a representative of FSEA and work with the Florida Building Commission, Florida Board of Professional Engineers, local building officials, and other code enforcement agencies to provide opinions and peer reviews on structural matters.

November 12, 2014
There will be a teleconference call on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 2:00 pm. This call is to approve for adoption Rule 61G20-1.001, Florida Administrative Code, adopting the Florida Building Code, 5th edition (2014), by reference, authorizing publication of a notice of proposed rule. This is not a workshop and the content of the code will not be a topic of discussion, only the procedural posture of the rule. After the adoption of the rule, it will be a minimum of six (6) months before it goes into effect.

The teleconference call was held today. As of this date, The Florida Building Code, 5th Edition (2014) is scheduled to go into effect June 30, 2015 as long as there are no changes offered at the upcoming rule adoption meeting. If there are changes offered, this will push the effect date out further.

There was a Rule Adoption hearing January 5, 2015. The effective date for the new 5th Edition (2014) Florida Building Code is June 30, 2015. The Building Commission has formed the "Code Coordination and Implementation Work group" with the first meeting January 30 2015 in Tallahassee. As part of the work group, David Compton, Chair of FSEA Code Advisory, will be representing the Structural Engineers within the state of Florida. He will have a better idea as to where the work group is headed after the first meeting.
